Cyber Insurance and why you need it
Businesses are now 30 times more likely to be victims of cyber crime than conventional burglary or theft. How can you protect yourself ?
There are some simple steps you can take, whether or not you decide to but insurance cover.
Firstly always check and double check the payee for every bank transfer / invoice that is emailed to to make sure the payee bank details are correct and have not been altered.
Call the number you have on file for the company - don't use the number on the invoice
Ensure that the accounts dept never accept an email instruction from you to make a payment without checking that it is really you by phone. Faked email addresses look very authentic until you look closer.
Here is a useful site that tells you if your email address has been potentially compromised by visiting a hacked site. You may be surprised at the sites that have been hacked in the past. If you are still using the same password as the date the site was hacked you should change it.
Insurance cover for cyber risks and cyber crime ( such as the examples outlined above) has come down in price as the market has become larger.
We will be very happy to discuss the risks and the remedies in detail with you . This can include a free check on your cyber vulnerability as well as a quotation for cyber insurance from some our many providers.
It is highly likely that you will be a victim of a cyber attack in the next year and its just as likely that you have already been hacked, but do not yet know. A few simple steps could save you thousands.
